Creating Branching Scenarios for eLearning Using the Soft Skills Simulation Template

Branching eLearning Scenarios Template IconWith this template that is included with ProForm Rapid eLearning Studio and Unison Collaborative Course Authoring, you can build branching soft skill simulations that play like a game. The simulations you build can have multiple outcomes.

The learner is presented a problem and must choose a response. The learner's responses determine the path through the scenario.

This template is ideal for moving beyond "information as training" and helps learners apply their knowledge. Use this template for training in any situation that requires critical thinking where the skill you are teaching demands qualitative judgment rather than quantitative knowledge, such as:

  • Customer Support
  • Sales Training
  • Negotiating Skills
  • Leadership Training

Teach principles to the learner early in the course and demonstrate how to solve problems, then let the learner try to apply that knowledge in a real-world scenario.

Features of the Soft Skill Simulation / Branching Scenario Template

  • SCORM Conformant (you set up how the simulation is scored and a final percentage score gets passed to the LMS)
  • Supports unlimited branching so the scenario can be as simple or as complex as you would like
  • Supports text, images, audio, and video so you can make your simulation experience as media-rich or as media-lean as you want
  • A visual progress meter shows the learner how they are progressing through the scenario
  • Experiential learning activity allows the learner to see the results of his/her choices
  • Provides comprehensive feedback at the end of the scenario so the scenario designer can provide coaching about the learner's responses to each step in the scenario path
  • Navigational controls allow the learner to move back a step or restart the scenario altogether
  • Each choice supports audio prompts
  • Displays the total points received and total points possible at the end of a given path so that the learner can see that they could do better by trying again
  • Media is preloaded step by step enabling the learner to start the scenario sooner while not wasting bandwidth loading media they may not ever see or hear
  • The ability to hide pages within the scenario creates a non-linear immersive experience and prevents learners from accidentally navigating to scenario steps by clicking the Next button or clicking a link in the TOC
  • Control text formatting using manually standard formatting controls, or control text throughout the scenario with Cascading Style Sheet (CSS) support
  • Includes comprehensive online help documentation
  • Includes completed sample simulation for you to explore
  • Includes MS Word storyboard template (completed sample and empty template) to assist you with scenario design
  • Designate the scenario starting point and multiple ending points for a variety of scenario outcomes
  • Access the Flash source code to modify the look and feel or functionality (for advanced developers)
